About Us: The Story Behind
Tot Trade originated in Columbia, South Carolina. In 1997 Kelly Graybill, a mother of two started this little children's consignment sale “Tot Trade” that has exploded from 36 consignors to over 1100 consignors! Kelly says, "I knew the concept was great but never in my wildest dream did I ever imagine it would turn into the event that it has. All I wanted to do was find a way to be able to stay home with my children but yet contribute to the family.”
After my first Tot Trade shopping experience, I was hooked! I can remember when I was shopping for one child, now my sister Jodi and I split a list and shop for all four of my children! Jodi and I have always talked about starting a business together and in the Fall, 2004 I was seven months pregnant with my third child and we brought the first Tot Trade to Charlotte. Jodi and I cannot believe the growth that we have experienced in two and a half short years, not to mention the dear friends that we have way along the way. Jodi says, “I like knowing that with our moms Tot Trade is making a difference in the community through the non profit organizations we support and I enjoy the monthly e-newsletter and offering some of my favorite recipes!”
As a graduate of Queens College, I know the tremendous amount of growth Charlotte has experienced. With four small children, I understand that there are moms just like me who need to stretch their dollar and provide the best they can for their families. Tot Trade works hard to put it all under one roof for today’s faced paced family!
Tot Trade Charlotte will only be as successful as our consignors, volunteers and shoppers make it! Jodi and I hope that you take advantage of all the extras that Tot Trade Charlotte offers you as a consignor, volunteer and shopper, from our annual Christmas Party at Toys R Us to the “goodies” provided by our sponsors.
It is Tot Trade Charlotte’s goal to bring you the best selection of “gently” used children’s, juniors and maternity clothing, toys and equipment. In addition, Tot Trade Charlotte will strive to bring you resources to help make your every day life as a mom less hectic, from women and children’s health resources, support group information to do it yourself projects.
